Sugarcane is cash crop and main source of income for millions of people in the Maharashtra, India as well as in world. The study was conducted in Karveer, Panhala and Shahuwadi tahsils of Kolhapur district. Expost-facto design of social research was made in the present investigation. The data were collected from 45 jaggery processor for the study. Findings of the study revealed that the respondents sold their produce immediately after the processing if prices are favourable, due to pressing needs of cash and due to the reason of indebtedness to traders. Majority of the respondents sold their produce to the wholesalers through commission agents in the regular market yard. Majority respondents got market information from the newspaper, radio and television. Majority of the respondents suggested that there should be declaration of the minimum support price before planting seasons, introduction of electronic weighing machines, reduction of commission rates and cold storage facilities should be improved.Keywords

The National Agricultural Technology Project (NATP) has framed for pilot testing new institutional arrangements for technology dissemination of the district level and below, through establishment of district Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) as an autonomous organization providing flexible working environment. Hence present investigation was undertaken with an objective to study the relationship between the personal socio-economic characters and the extent of involvement of the representative farmers in ATMA. The present study was conducted in the Amravati District which comes in the vidharbha region of Maharashtra State during the year 2005-2006. For the present research work the Amravati District ATMA (agency) was purposively selected which was started in the year 2000-01. Amravati district ATMA (agency) works in fourteen Tahsils and the representative farmers. From the fourteen Farmers Advisory Committee (FAC) were selected along with the other seven representatives from the Governing Board at the District level. Thus a list of representative farmers was obtained from the office of the Project Director ATMA Amravati. The method of personal interview was used for the data collection and the data from all the selected sample respondents was collected. The respondent farmers were personally contacted for their interview purpose. Present investigation concluded that irrespective of representative farmer's age group, maximum number of them had shown high involvement level and the test of correlation shows negative and non significant relationship. Regarding education and their involvement, findings also show high level involvement among the majority and the test of correlation shows negative and non significant relationship at 0.05 probabilities. Regarding income and involvement, the results show a high level involvement of maximum farmers irrespective of income level. The test of correlation shows negative and non significant relationship at 0.05 probabilities. Regarding land holding and involvement, the results also show a high level involvement among the maximum number, irrespective of their land holding category, and the test of correlation shows a positive and non-significant relationship at 0.05 probabilities. Regarding social participation and involvement, the findings show a positive trend of involvement and the farmers with increasing level, were found involved in ATMA activities irrespective of their social participation in other formal organizations.Keywords

In the world of modern agriculture and globalization, market play a vital role for getting more profit by using wise use of information for trading of goods. In India, farmers work very hard for getting maximum production in available resources, but they do not get expected price for their produce. Consequently, they increase production by using improved production technology of crops, but their profit or income relatively lower. This is due to the non-availability of market or lack of knowledge about market. Trading at proper market can definitely give profit to the farmers. Hence, present investigation was undertaken with an objective to study the relationship between socioeconomic profile and level information sources for market information by farmers. Present investigation was undertaken in Ramtek and Kuhi Panchayat Samiti of Nagpur District during the year 2005-2006. The list of farmers of selected villages was prepared with the help of Agri. Assistant and it was arranged alphabetically. After doing this, selection was made by nth number method and 16 farmers from each village were included in the sample. In all total sample, consisted of 160 respondents. Pre-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. It is evident from the findings that majority of farmers had low-medium level of use of information sources for market information. Among the younger age group of farmers 31.50 per cent of farmers had high level of use of information sources. Whereas old age group of farmers had 24.39 per cent of level of use of information sources for market information. There was significant relationship between education and use of information sources among farmers. The positive correlation indicates that illiterate farmers had low level of use of information sources as compared to literate framers. Among the big land holding group 33.25 per cent had high level of use of information sources. Whereas among the marginal land holding group of farmers 31.66 per cent of farmers had high level of use of information sources for market information.Keywords

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) at district level is increasingly responsible for all the technology dissemination activities in various blocks within the district. It has linkage with all the line departments, research organization and agencies associated with agricultural development in the district. Hence, present investigation was undertaken with an objective to study personal characteristics of the representative farmers in the light of their socio-economic conditions, to assess the knowledge about the function and activities related to ATMA and to study the constraints of representative farmers in their involvement in various programmes and activities. The present study was conducted in the Amravati District which comes in the vidharbha region of Maharashtra State during the year 2005-2006. For the present research work the Amravati District ATMA was purposively selected. Thus a list of representative farmers was obtained from the office of the Project Director ATMA Amravati. The method of personal interview was used for the data collection and the data from all the selected sample respondents was collected. The respondent farmers were personally contacted for their interview purpose. Present study concluded that 13 per cent respondents were also having up to 5 ha of land. The social participation level of most of respondents was medium and about one third of the respondents had higher level, showing a trend that most of the representative farmers were with social interest in the village development. The knowledge level of the respondents about ATMA activities was medium shown by majority (62.6%) of the respondents. It is further noted in the same table that about one-fifth farmers also, had higher level of knowledge. It is also seen that a good number of respondents (16.53%), had also shown low level of knowledge. About 30 per cent showed medium level involvement and the least number among the respondents was that of those with low level of involvement.Keywords

Present investigation was undertaken with an objective, to study the knowledge level of respondents about recommended package of practices of green gram and to study the extent of adoption of Kharif green gram cultivation practices. The study was conducted in the Parbhani district of Maharashtra state. On the area basis, Parbhani and Selu talukas were purposively selected. Pre-structured and pre-tested questionnaire was developed for data collection. Personal interview technique was used for collection of data. Data were analysed by SPSS software. It was observed that 49.33 per cent of the respondents were having knowledge of land requirement for green gram crop. While 34.00 per cent of them were having knowledge about recommended varieties of the green gram. Majority of the respondents (70.00 per cent) had medium knowledge followed by 17.33 per cent of them having low knowledge and 12.67 per cent of them had high level of knowledge. It was further observed that 19.33 per cent and 12.00 per cent of respondents fully adopted practices like recommended varieties and control measures for diseases like powdery mildew, respectively, whereas negligible per cent of respondents (i.e. 0.07%) fully adopted Rhizobium seed treatment practice. In relationship between selected nine independent variables and adoption level, it was found that out of five variables viz., education, land holding, annual income, source of information and knowledge had positive and significant relationship with adoption level at 0.01 level of probability while single variable economic motivation had positive and significant relationship with adoption level at 0.05 level of probability.Keywords

The expert system can play a major role in the dissemination and adoption of useful knowledge for agriculture. Some constraints perceived by experts working at KVKs, create problem for transfer of technology. Hence, the study was carried out with an objective to know the constraints faced by the experts working at KVKs' and to seek the suggestions to overcome the constraints. The study was made the Department of Extension Education, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari (Gujarat) during the year 2009-2010. Pre-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. It was observed that non-availability of vehicle for on campus training (67.30 per cent) was the main constraint perceived by the expert working at KVKs' and followed by lack of co-operation from colleagues (64.42 per cent), multifarious duty (59.63 per cent), and non-availability of need based and location specific research (55.77 per cent). The suggestions to overcome the constraints mentioned by the experts were availability of vehicle for on and off campus for training (63.46 per cent) organization of multifarious activities based on need and time (58.63 per cent) and recommendations on location specific conditions (57.79 per cent).Keywords

Cardio-vascular disease appears to be the most common cause of disability and death in many parts of world. Scientific evidences today support the concept that cardio-vascular diseases have their ischolar_mains in our daily diets. In recent years researchers have focused attention on dietary aspects of the above disease. Hence, present study was undertaken with an objective to develop self rating scale for measure possibility of occurrence of cardio-vascular diseases. For present investigation methodology follows as collection of statements, editing and pre selection of items, selection of items, item analysis, testing the validity and reliability of scale etc. As the scale was found to be reliable and valid, the developed scale serves as a scientific tool for the measurement of possibility of occurrence of cardio-vascular diseases.Keywords

Coronary heart disease (CHD) afflicts people beyond 50 years in west but it is becoming common between the age group of 30-45 years in India. Terminalia chebula one of the traditional Ayurvedic medicine has been found to possess hypocholesterolemic effect. Present investigation was undertaken with an objective to study the effect of supplementation of Terminalia chebula on coronary heart disease patients. For per cent investigation 10 patient who suffered from coronary heart disease were selected from Padmabhushan Vasantdada Patil Government Hospital, Sangli city of Maharashtra State. For present investigation control group and experimental group was used for analyzing the effect of Terminalia chebula on coronary heart disease patients. There was significance fall in the levels of serum cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL but not significant fall in the level of HDL when alloxan induced coronary heart disease patients was treated with Terminalia chebula powder for 60 days. The present investigation reveals that Terminalia chebula significantly affect on coronary heart disease.Keywords
